Zimbabwe is strengthening its commitment to social justice and a just transition through constitutional guarantees, progressive labour reforms, and inclusive national policies, the TNF Chair, Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Welfare,   Edgar Moyo, has said.

Addressing delegates at an international forum convened by the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS) in Thessaloniki, Greece, the Chairman highlighted Zimbabwe’s experience in ensuring that economic, technological, and climate transitions do not leave workers and communities behind.

The TNF Chairman, noted that social justice is firmly embedded in Zimbabwe’s legal framework, with the Constitution guaranteeing fair labour practices, decent working conditions, collective bargaining, and protection of workers’ rights. These commitments are further reinforced through the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which prioritises inclusive growth, employment creation, social protection, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

Recent labour law reforms, particularly the Labour Amendment Act, were cited as a major milestone in strengthening labour protection. The reforms enhance safeguards against unfair labour practices, improve retrenchment and termination procedures, and strengthen enforcement of labour standards.

He also underscored the importance of social dialogue in managing economic transitions, noting that platforms such as the Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) enable Government, employers, and workers to collaboratively address labour market challenges and promote social cohesion.

On climate action, Zimbabwe is aligning environmental sustainability with social justice through legislative and policy initiatives that support renewable energy, climate governance, and gender-responsive social protection.

Honourable Minister Moyo concluded by calling for greater international cooperation, knowledge sharing, and equitable access to climate finance and technology to support developing countries in achieving a fair and inclusive transition.
