Under the theme “Occupational Safety and Health: Technology and the Future of Work,” the Vice President of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) cde Chikosi emphasized that while technology is transforming the world of work, innovation must not come at the expense of workers’ health and safety.

He applauded NSSA for prioritizing dialogue on occupational safety at a time when workers face new risks from automation, digital platforms, and surveillance.

Cde Chikosi called for the following:
✅ Stronger and evolving health and safety regulations
✅ Increased inspections and enforcement by NSSA and the Ministry of Labour
✅ Ongoing social dialogue among government, employers, and workers
✅ Training and reskilling to prepare workers for the digital future

The ZCTU vice president also raised concern over reports of poor working conditions, especially in sectors run by some foreign investors, stressing that investment must never compromise workers’ rights and dignity.

He urged authorities to “name and shame” repeat offenders, enforce the law equally, and protect whistle blowers.

In closing, he called for a future where technology empowers workers, safety is smart, and health is a right not a privilege.
